It should be ok, but you would need to look for a Tri Band phone. The plugs would be different, but if you look on the internet you should be able to find adaptors.
As for the networks, you would need to check that with them, some networks in America aren’t available over here. I’m on Virgin network over here, but when I take my Samsung E570 to the USA it goes on to T Mobile. You’d also need to check with the network that your phone is set up at their end to work in another country.

Which phone are you looking at? 9 times of out 10 there are no problems. You can buy UK chargers on ebay for about 20 quid, be sure they are the offical chargers though.

Most phones in the USA work on a different network frequency to the UK, I think you need a tri band phone (ie works on European,American and maybe Asian network frequencies)

Yes, but you need to check that it works on the GSM frequencies of both the US and the one the Uk uses. Take a look at the wikipedia article below to see which ones they use.
As for the charger, all you need is a plug adapter, as most of the chargers take variable voltage.
