what is the new term they called "3G" in mobile phones?

3G=third generation

In mobile telephony, third-generation protocols support much higher data rates, measured in Mbps, intended for applications other than voice. 3G networks trials started in Japan in 2001. 3G networks are expected to be starting in Europe and part of Asia/Pacific by 2002, and in the US later. 3G will support bandwidth-hungry applications such as full-motion video, video-conferencing and full Internet access.

    3G stands for Third Generation. This is a new era in mobile telecommunications that involves the technology of WCDMA(Wide Code Digital Multiple Access). This put from a user’s perspective it allows you to download music, videos, watch live streaming TV, check emails including their attachments and even play live cross network games. The phones are much more advanced and include mainly a 1.3 Megapixel or above camera, stereo speakers, the ability to play Mp3s, and to view documents etc.

    The leader’s in this technology are ‘3′ mobile, a Hutchison Telecom company and iMode. They have been the companies that have been deploying the technology for public use over the last 5 years. We have a very strong 3G market in australia with all networks now providing a 3G service.

    ‘3′ mobile
    Telstra Active
    Optus Zoo 3G
    Vodafone LIve! with 3G
